Women's Tennis Opens MAAC Play Against Monmouth

Marist To Play First Of Two Fall Conference Matches

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's Tennis opens MAAC play this weekend as it hosts Monmouth at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 4. This is also the Red Foxes first dual match of the 2019-20 season, following two tournaments to begin the year.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes competed in the West Point Invite last weekend.
  • They recorded wins in B doubles as well as the C, D and E flights in singles.
  • Captains Julia Gabay and Sam Galu found success as Gabay reached the quarters in the C flight while Galu advanced all the way to the finals of the E Singles flight on Sunday.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • Monmouth is 2-1 on the season thus far, following three-straight home games in an eight-day span starting last Monday, September 23.
  • Their last match was a win against St. Francis Brooklyn on Tuesday, a 4-3 nailbiter.
  • Nicole Gasser holds the best singles record for the Hawks so far at 3-2.
  • The Hawks have three different doubles groups with wins, but a combined record of 3-13.
 
LAST MATCHUP
  • Back in October of 2018, Marist handled Monmouth 7-0 and won every match that took place. (3-0 in doubles to earn the point, and 6-0 in singles.)
  • This year's captains, Gabay and Galu, kicked off the action with a 6-3 win in the first doubles.
  • Gabay also dominated her singles match winning 6-0 6-0.
  • Returners Madison Price, Jada Tijani and Sophia Chavarria also took home victories.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Foxes have one more MAAC matchup in the fall on Sunday, October 13 in Lawrenceville, NJ as they take on Rider.
  • After that, the last possible fall competition is the ITA Regional Tournament, from October 17-22 (Friday-Tuesday) in West Point, NY.
