Swimming & Diving Travels to Rider for Dual Meet

The Defending Men’s MAAC Champions Will Be a Great Test for the Red Foxes

LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – Both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams return to the pool on Saturday, Nov 2 for a dual meet against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Rider. The event will be the third dual meet of the season for both Red Fox squads, second road dual meet, and second MAAC dual meet of the season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • On Thursday, October 24, both men's and women's swimming & diving hosted their home openers at McCann Natatorium in a dual meet against Fordham.
  • The men's team defeated the Rams 144-95, and improved to 2-0 on the season
  • The women's team lost to Fordham by a score of 158-85, and fell to 1-1 on the season. The Red Foxes are now 1-16 against the Rams in the history of the program.
  • Esabelle Gervasio had an incredible meet for the women, and garnered MAAC Women's Diver of the Week for her efforts. She swept both diving competitions, in what was a very impressive 18-point performance. She took first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 244.13, and then won the 1-meter dive with a score of 258.38.
  • Ahmed Sallam opened the season with his second absolutely dominant performance for the men, totaling 18 points for the second straight meet. Besides a great performance in the medley relay, he also placed first in the 50-yard free, with a time of 21.33. In addition, he took first in the 100-yard free, with a time of 46.86.
  • The men's team also ran the table when it came to diving events in the meet. David Gallino won the 1-meter dive with a score of 269.93, while Raislan Aiken took second place with a score of 266.33. Aiken then won the 3-meter dive with a score of 254.78.
 
HISTORY VS RIDER
  • The men's and women's teams have fared very differently against Rider through the history of the program.
  • The men's team has swum against Rider for each of the past 16 years, and 17 of the last 18 years, taking a break all the way back in 2002. The women's teams have swum against each other for nine straight years, and 13 times through the history of the program
  • The women's team has historically dominated the Broncs Fordham, holding a record of 11-2 over Rider. Last season, the Red Foxes defeated the the Broncs, 166-134.  
  • The men's team has struggled historically against Rider. Marist has not beaten the Broncs since all the way back in 2006, and is 4-13 overall against Rider. Last year, the Broncs defeated the Red Foxes 163-137.
 
SCOUTING RIDER MEN
  • Rider fished last season 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
  • Rider also finished first in last year's MAAC Championships with 781 points. Marist finished behind them in third with 523.5 points.
  • The Broncs are 1-1 so far on the season, and Saturday's meet will be their first MAAC meet of the season.
  • Senior Justin Carey has been a top performer so far this season for Rider. Just in his last meet, he came in first-place in the 100 free (45.72), 100 fly (49.33) and the 100 back (51.00).
 
SCOUTING RIDER WOMEN
  • The Broncs finished third in last year's MAAC Championships with 551.5 points. They placed right behind the Red Foxes who totaled 646 points in second place.
  • Rider closed out 2018-19 with an overall record of 4-5 and 2-1 in the conference.
  • The Broncs are 0-2 so far in the 2019-2020 season with their first conference matchup coming Saturday as well.
  • Sophomore Kayla May has been the leading performer so far this season for Rider. Just last meet, she finished first overall in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.47. She also took first in the 200 back (2:06.23) and the 100 back (58.36).
 
UP NEXT
Both teams will take a break from MAAC play, and return to McCann Natatorium for a dual meet against the Colgate Raiders. The first event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
