POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's lacrosse opens up the season tomorrow at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes will take on Army with the draw scheduled for 4 pm.
Women's lacrosse went 10-7 last season and fell in the MAAC semifinal round to Canisius. The Red Foxes went 6-2 in conference play to earn a share of the regular season championship. Head Coach Jessica Wilkinson was named MAAC Coach of the Year.
Marist will return a bevy of talent for the 2019 season. Junior
Samantha Mehalick, who led the team and the conference in goals per game, will look to lead the offense after being named to the All-MAAC Second Team last season. Senior
Hailey Wagner returns after leading the NCAA in draw controls per game. Senior
Logan Boyle looks to lead the defense after being named to the All-MAAC second team last season.
Sophomore
Delaney Galvin had a banner freshman year at goalkeeper. Galvin was named MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year in addition to being placed on the All-MAAC First Team. Sophomores
Camille Renaud and
Kelly George, in addition to Galvin, were named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team last season.
The Red Foxes were selected to finish second in the MAAC, earning three first place votes. Boyle, Wagner, Mehalick and Galvin were all named to the Preseason Team, the most selections from any school.
Senior
Gabby Childrose, Boyle, Wagner and Mehalick were selected as captains for the 2019 season. Wagner and Childrose are second year captains while Boyle and Mehalick enter their first year as a captain.
Marist has opened up the previous two seasons against Army, claiming a 14-11 victory to kick off last season. This is the first time Marist has hosted Army. The Black Knights started their season off with an 18-8 victory over Iona.
Marist will hit the road to take on Rutgers Saturday February 16 at High Point Stadium. Game will start at 3 pm.
