POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football program has announced the following promotions and addition to its coaching staff for the 2019 season:
- Jake Dembow has been promoted to offensive coordinator. Dembow has served as an assistant on the offensive side for the previous six years, having coached the running backs from 2013-14 and the offensive line since 2015. He will continue to coach the team's offensive linemen this year. Dembow is a 2009 Marist graduate who started all 44 games of his career on the offensive line.
- Cameron Gibson has been promoted to special teams coordinator/safeties coach. Gibson was an assistant secondary coach the previous two seasons. He is a 2017 Marist graduate who played cornerback for the Red Foxes from 2013-16, was named Honorable Mention All-Pioneer Football League (PFL) twice, and served as a team captain as a senior.
- Billy Creed has been promoted to passing game coordinator, and will continue to coach the team's wide receivers. Creed is entering his fourth season on the Marist staff. He coached wide receivers last year, was assistant special teams coordinator the previous two seasons, and was defensive line coach from 2016-17.
- James Groce has been promoted to recruiting coordinator. Groce joined the program as defensive line coach in the 2018 season. He will continue in that role for the upcoming season.
- Casey Tosches will serve as assistant special teams coordinator this season. Tosches joined the Marist staff in 2018 as tight ends coach, a role he will continue in this season.
- Mike Kagafas has returned to the program as assistant linebackers coach. Kagafas is a 2014 Marist graduate who played safety and then linebacker for the Red Foxes from 2010-14. He went on to play overseas for three years in Sweden and Poland. As a fifth-year senior, he served as a team captain and was named Honorable Mention All-PFL.
- Associate head coach/defensive coordinator Scott Rumsey will also coach the team's linebackers this season. A 1991 Marist graduate, Rumsey is heading into his 22nd season on the Marist staff, 19th as defensive coordinator, and 15th as associate head coach.
The following coaches will return to their roles this season:
- Jim Parady, who is tied for the longest tenure of any head coach in the Football Championship Subdivision, will be in his 28th season guiding the program in 2019. He will be in his 29th season overall at Marist. Parady will once again coach the Red Foxes' quarterbacks.
- Larry Riley will coach the Red Foxes' cornerbacks in 2019. Riley is heading into his 32nd season on staff. He has worked with the defensive backs and linebackers in his tenure.
- Tom Kelly will coach kickers and snappers. Kelly, who kicked for the Red Foxes and graduated in 1975, is heading into his 36th season on staff.
- Adam Schmitt will serve as director of football operations. Schmitt joined the Marist staff in this role in 2018.
The Marist football program will be heading into its 11
th season as a member of the PFL in 2019. The Red Foxes won a share of the league title in 2013. Marist opens its 11-game schedule at Georgetown on Sept. 7, and plays the first of its six games at Tenney Stadium against PFL foe Stetson on Sept. 14.
