STONY BROOK, New York – Marist men's lacrosse used a huge second half to claim a 10-5 victory over Stony Brook at Lavalle field Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes outscored the Seawolves 7-2 in the second half and held them scoreless in the third quarter. With the win, Marist moves to .500 on the season at 2-2.

- The first half was a back and forth affair between both teams. Stony Brook found the back of the net first with a long range shot to go up 1-0. Chris Schlappich equalized but Stony Brook responded instantly to reclaim the lead. James Lyons scored within the final seconds of the first quarter to tie it up at 2-2.
- Midway through the second quarter, the Seawolves transitioned quickly off a Marist turnover to go up 3-2. Minutes later, Lyons would find the back of the net again and the two teams would stay even for the remainder of the half.
- Defense set the tone in the first half. Jake MacGregor finished with seven saves. Ralph Sommer terrorized the opposing offense, tallying four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Marist dominated the third quarter behind a shutdown defense and a methodic offense. The offense was patient and accurate with all nine shots of the quarter on goal. The Red Foxes outscored the Seawolves 5-0 in the quarter.
- Stony Brook opened up the final quarter with a goal, but goals by Jake Weinman and Jojo Pirreca put Marist up 10-4 with 10:43 left in the game. Stony Brook responded right away with a goal of its own, but the Red Fox defense locked down after that and Marist burned time off the game clock the rest of the way.
- Lyons and Pirreca each had hat tricks on the day with Pirreca recording an assist.
- James Sarracco and Sommers anchored the defense. Both record two caused turnovers and Sommers picked up six ground balls.
- After losing the first three face-offs, Marist dominated the face-off position. Peyton Smith won 15-19.
- MacGregor finished the game with 12 saves.
- Marist edged Stony Brook in shots 33-28.
Marist will play its last road game before its home opener. The Red Foxes will tilt off against UNC at 7 PM on March 8.
