#20 Water Polo Heads Down to the Seahawk Invite

Red Foxes Set for Four MAAC Games

STATEN ISLAND, New York - Marist water polo (11-12, 2-1 MAAC) will partake in the Wagner Seahawk Invitational on March 23-24 for four games of MAAC competition.
 
SCHEDULE
SATURDAY, MARCH 23
  • Marist vs. Villanova - 1:30 p.m.
  • Marist vs. Iona - 6 p.m.
SUNDAY, MARCH 24
  • Marist vs. St. Francis Brooklyn - 10:30 a.m.
  • Marist vs. Siena - 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The #20 Red Foxes went 2-2 at the LMU Invitational, earning wins over Pomona-Pitzer and #19 San Jose State.
  • Marist topped the Trojans 10-9 in overtime. Anais Mathes scored two goals, and netted the overtime point that lifted the Red Foxes to victory.
  • The Red Foxes narrowly lost to #16 Wagner 11-10. The Seahawks hit a buzzer-beater in the final second to take the game. Carsen Horvatich made 13 saves for a stellar 54.2 save-percentage.
  • Marist was outlasted by #12 Loyola Marymount on day two by a score of 10-6. Six Red Foxes scored a goal each against the hosts of the invitational.
  • In the final game of the weekend, Marist defeated Pomona-Pitzer 7-5. The Sagehens led 5-3 with 30 seconds left in the first half, but the Red Foxes held them without a goal for the remainder of the game to emerge victorious. Justine Castro guided Marist with two goals against the top DIII team.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
  • Villanova (8-9, 3-0 MAAC) currently leads the conference with their three wins. Last time out, they won three straight over Siena (12-5), Iona (12-11) and St. Francis Brooklyn (12-10).
  • Iona (8-13, 2-2 MAAC) enters their second weekend of MAAC play. In their last outing, they dropped two to Wagner and Villanova, but beat La Salle (15-8) and Siena (13-9).
  • St. Francis Brooklyn (3-15, 0-4 MAAC) heads into the invitational looking to build on a two-game winning streak. They topped Connecticut College 24-3 and Utica 32-3 last weekend.
  • Siena (7-11, 0-3 MAAC) will start the weekend trying to gain their first conference victory. They have split their last six games, winning three and then losing three to open MAAC play.
UP NEXT
Marist travels to Brooklyn, New York for the St. Francis Invitational on April 6-7 for three more conference matchups including a rematch with Wagner.
