Men's Lacrosse Drops Close Game to Detroit Mercy

The Titans Used a Fourth Quarter Push to Pick Up the Win

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's lacrosse dropped a tight contest to Detroit Mercy 12-11 at Tenney Stadium. The Titans scored four unanswered goals in the final frame to claim victory over the Red Foxes. Marist falls to 4-4 and 2-1 in conference play.
 
SUMMARY
  • Detroit Mercy's Seth Mendell got on the board first, utilizing a man-up opportunity to take a lead. A minute later, Jojo Pirreca equalized for Marist.
  • The Titans went on a 3-1 to go up 4-2. Making his first career start, Jamison Embury scored back to back goals to close out the quarter.
  • Both defenses were on lock-down the first half of the second quarter. Hunter Embury broke the ice midway through with a behind the back shot to put Marist up 5-4. Alex Jarzembowski won the following face-off and scored to tie the game. Goals by Joe Tierney and Hunter Embury put Marist back up 7-5 at the end of the half.
  • Detroit Mercy scored two goals within the first minute and a half to tie the game up. Vito Musso and Mike Devukaj recorded their first goal and assist of the season respectively to retake the lead for Marist. The Titans score in the last minute of the quarter to take an 8-8 time into the final quarter.
  • Marist's offense went to work, orchestrating a 3-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. Detroit Mercy responded with a 4-0 to claim the lead. Marist would have a couple of opportunities to send the game into overtime but were unable to find the back of the next.

  • Jamison Embury led the offense with four points from two goals and two assists.
  • In a battle between two of the top face-off specialists in the country, Peyton Smith came up on top, winning 15-of-27.
  • Marist had 12 turnovers with eight coming in the third quarter.
  • The Red Foxes were perfect on clears, going 14-for-14
  • Logan Shamblin had 17 saves for Detroit Mercy.
 
UP NEXT
Marist will have a quick turnaround and host Bucknell at Tenney Stadium on April 2. Opening face-off is set for 4:00 PM.
