#21 Water Polo Opens MAAC Play in Virginia

Red Foxes to Face Off with La Salle and VMI

LEXINGTON, VIRGINIA: The Marist water polo team will travel to Virginia for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 9. Marist will face La Salle and Virginia Military Institute in the first MAAC games of the season.

LAST TIME OUT
Marist traveled to the University of Michigan to take part in the Wolverine Invitational, but went 0-4. The team came within just one point of upsetting two top-15 teams.
  • Marist was defeated by #15 Long Beach State University in a close 10-9 battle. Myriam Lizotte led the team with three goals, her third hat-trick of the season.
  • Marist was defeated by #14 UC San Diego in close 9-8 contest. Justine Castro paced the team with two goals, two assists and two steals.
  • Marist was bested by #6 University of the Pacific 12-7. Carsen Horvatich blocked 14 shots with an impressive 53.8 percent on saves.
  • Marist had six individual players score in the battle against #13 Fresno State but were bested 14-6.
Scouting the Competition
  • La Salle University is currently 5-14 overall and currently on a three game losing streak. They have all five of their wins on a neutral site. They have only played one ranked team in #18 Harvard who shut them out. Before the three game losing streak had taken place, the Explorers had won three straight. Marist will be the first of their MAAC competition this season.
  • Virginia Military Institute is currently 10-4, and 5-2 in their last seven games. They will kick off their first MAAC competition against Marist this season. The Cadets are coming off a 16-10 win against La Verne University.
Up Next
Marist will travel to Los Angeles, California for a full weekend of games, and highlighting the competitors is MAAC rival #16 Wagner. This will be the Red Foxes' first matchup with the reigning five-time defending conference champions of the season.
