Men's Lacrosse Travels to Virginia

Red Foxes Challenge #6 Team

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's lacrosse team will take on #6 University of Virginia on Saturday, April 20th. Face-off is set for 3 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Red Foxes defeated St. Bonaventure 11-5 on Senior Night. Hunter Embury, Jamison Embury, Chris Schlappich, and Jake Weinman paced the Marist offense with two goals apiece. Vito Musso, Avery Nesmith, and Jojo Pirreca added one goal each. Joe Tierney and Hunter Embury led the team with two assists each, while goalie Jake MacGregor tallied nine saves. The win clinched a spot in the MAAC tournament which will take place at Tenney Stadium from May 2nd to 4th.                                         

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS

Virginia sits at 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the ACC. The Cavaliers las played VMI Tuesday evening, dominating VMI 24-5. Xander Dickson had a career day, scoring seven goals and adding two assists. Goalie Alex Rhode had seven saves. Virginia boosts a high powered offense, with both Matt Moore and Michael Kraus tallying over 50 points on the season.

  • This is the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
  • Marist is looking for a win over the highest ranked opponent it has faced in school history. Current highest ranked opponent the Red Foxes have defeated was #8 Stony Brook in 2016.
  • Virginia's scoring offense ranks 10th in the NCAA averaging 13.69 goals per game. Marist's scoring defense ranks 12th only allowing on average 9.58 goals per game.
  • The face-off will feature a match-up between two players in the top 20 in the NCAA in face-off percentage. Peyton Smith (.654) ranks sixth while Virginia's Petey LaSalla (.611) ranks 18th.
  • Jake MacGregor ranks ninth in the NCAA in save percentage (.568) and tenth in goals against average (9.37). 
UP NEXT

Marist will travel to MAAC rival Canisius for the regular-season finale on Friday, April 26th. A win over Canisius will clinch the #1 seed for Marist. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
