Women's Lacrosse Hosts Canisius

The Red Foxes Look to Pick Up a MAAC Win

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY-The Maristwomen's Lacrosse team will face off against Canisius College in a conference matchup on Wednesday April 3rd at 4 PM at Tenney Stadium.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Foxes lost to Monmouth 15-12 on Saturday March 30th. Marist fell to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Monmouth struck first but Marist quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Monmouth responded with a 3-0 run. Monmouth continued their scoring run and scored four unanswered goals in the second half. The Red Foxes fought hard to try to scratch their way back into the game but Monmouth kept the pressure on. Despite two late goals in the second half, the Red Foxes could not catch the Hawks.
 
SCOUTING CANISIUS
Canisius is looking for its first win this season. They are 0-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Griffins lost to Siena 17-16 in overtime on Wednesday March 27th and fell to Quinnipiac 14-13 in double overtime on Saturday March 30th.
Senior attacker Jourdan Roemer is the leading scorer for the Griffins. She has 28 goals and 11 assists in 11 games. She scored a season-high five goals in their overtime loss to Siena. Canisius has 160 turnovers and has only caused 66 turnovers on defense. The offense has scored 72 goals on 196 shot attempts.
 
FACTS AND FIGURES
  • Marist was defeated by Canisius last season in the MAAC Championship 13-11. They are looking for their first win in seven tries.
  • Hailey Wagner has 113 draw controls on the season, more than any other player in the NCAA.
  • Canisius leads the series 16-13.
  • Samantha Mehalick leads the MAAC in goals per game at 3.64 while Jourdan Roemer ranks third at 2.80.
