BUFFALO, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team defeated Canisius 10-8 in its regular season finale on Saturday, April 26. With the victory, the Red Foxes clinched the #1 seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.

Marist finished the season 8-6 overall, and 6-1 in the MAAC.Â

·     Marist got on the board quickly in the first quarter, as James Lyons connected on an unassisted goal just 1:12 into the game.
·     Canisius answered, scoring three consecutive goals, to take a 3-1 lead.
·     Jamison Embury tied the game early in the second quarter, with his eighth goal of the season.
·     Jojo Pirreca connected on his 21st goal of the season with 1:46 remaining in the first half, and it gave the Red Foxes a 5-4 lead heading into the locker room.
·     The Golden Griffins scored back-to-back goals to open the third quarter and took a 6-5 lead.
·     From there, Marist went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-6 lead early in the fourth quarter.
·     Canisius brought the score to 10-8 late in the fourth quarter, but the Red Fox defense was able to fend off the Golden Griffins and come out with the victory.

·        Marist had four players score two goals each: Pirreca, Lyons, Embury, and Joe Tierney.
·        Jacob Buck led Canisius with four goals on the day.
·        Tierney had four points on the day, adding two assists to his two goals.
·        Peyton Smith was 17-21 on faceoffs and had 12 ground balls.
·        Jake MacGregor made 9 saves, and had a save percentage of .529.
·        The Red Foxes were 2-3 in extra man opportunities, while the Golden Griffins were 0-4.

The Red Foxes head into the MAAC Tournament at the #1 seed. They will know their opponent following the conclusion of all of tomorrow's games. The last time Marist was the MAAC regular season champion was in 2015.
