Women's Lacrosse Takes on Manhattan in MAAC Quarterfinals

Red Foxes Look to Even the Score with the Jaspers

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The #5 Marist women's lacrosse team will take on #4 Manhattan in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference quarterfinals on Saturday, April 27th. Draw control is set for 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT

Marist defeated Iona 15-10 on Saturday, April 20th. Senior Hailey Wagner led the way with four goals, followed by senior Audrey Cerrone and junior Samantha Mehalick with three goals each. Mehalick also led the team with three assists. Sophomore goalie Delaney Galvin tallied 14 saves. Both Wagner and Mehalick reached major career milestones against Iona with Wagner recording her 100th career goal and Mehalick breaking the all-time scoring record with her 163rd career goal.                                   

PREVIOUS MATCHUP WITH MANHATTAN

The Red Foxes fell to the Jaspers 12-10 on Wednesday, March 27th. Samantha Mehalick paced the offense with four goals, followed by sophomore Kelly George with two. Hailey Wagner tallied 14 draw controls. Marist led for most of the first half until Manhattan tied the game with :16 remaining. Manhattan scored the first two goals of the second half and never looked back.

SCOUTING THE JASPERS

The Jaspers are 11-5 overall, tying the most wins in a single season. Last time out, Manhattan defeated Niagara 7-6 in a double-overtime thriller on Saturday, April 20th. Molly Fitzpatrick led the way with three goals, followed by Caitlin Murphy with two. Goalie Nikki Prestiano tallied 17 saves. Fitzpatrick scored the game-winning goal with 3:11 remaining in the second overtime period.                                                                                                                         

UP NEXT

With a win, the Red Foxes will travel to Fairfield for the semifinals on Thursday, May 2nd. The opponent will be based on the results of Saturday's games.
