BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, New York - #21 Marist water polo (17-13, 8-2 MAAC) put away Virginia Military Institute (16-8, 6-4 MAAC) on Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes won 16-6 to sweep the season series over the Keydets.
 

SUMMARY

• Marist's defense was stalwart in this game as they shut out VMI in the first frame, and allowed only two goals each in the remaining periods. The Red Foxes scored five in the first and seven in the fourth.
• Grace Doerfler found the net four times to pace Marist, and also grabbed a steal.
• Anais Mathes, Katelin Harris and Lexi Puhl each scored twice.
• Aminadi Anorve, Susan Cantoni, Katherine Tijerina, Carolyn Gauvin, Sawyer Alter and Kathryn McCullough added a goal each to support the Marist total.
• Carsen Horvatich and Marina Hyhan split time in the net, making seven and four saves apiece. Both keepers blocked over 63 percent of the attempted shots.
• The Red Foxes shot 59.3 percent while holding the Keydets 21.4 percent.

Marist closes out the MAAC season with four matches hosted by Villanova. The Red Foxes will face off with Siena, St. Francis Brooklyn, Iona and Villanova for the final time before the MAAC tournament.
