Men's Lacrosse Prepares to Host UMBC in NCAA Opening Round

The Red Foxes Will Play Their Third Postseason Game in a Row at Tenney Stadium

POUGHKEEPISE, New York – Marist men's lacrosse will host UMBC for an NCAA opening round game Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
 
Tickets to Wednesday night's game can be purchased at MaristTickets.com, at the Marist Ticket Office located in the McCann Center, or by phone at 845-575-3553. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children, and $5 per ticket for groups of 15 or more. Marist students receive free admission to the game with a valid Marist ID.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Marist claimed the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship after winning a 15-14 thriller over Quinnipiac. The Red Foxes overcame an early 3-0 hole to pick up their third MAAC Championship. Joe Tierney was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player. James Sarrocco, Billy Andrle and Jamison Embury were named to the All-Tournament team as well.
 
SCOUTING UMBC
UMBC earned the America East's automatic bid after defeating #1 seed Stony Brook and #2 seed Vermont in the America East tournament. The Retrievers qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2009. Trevor Patschorke was named the Tournament MVP after scoring the winning goal with 66 seconds left. Ryan Frawley, Billy Nolan and Gunnar Schimoler were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
FACTS AND FIGURES
  • Marist is seeking its first win over UMBC. The Red Foxes have played the Retrievers three times in the last three seasons, losing by a combined six goals.
  • The Red Foxes are 2-0 against the America East this season with wins over Hartford and Stony Brook.
  • The 15 goals Marist scored against Quinnipiac was a season high. This is also the highest number of goals scored since Marist defeated Manhattan 16-6 in 2017.
  • This is the second ever NCAA postseason game Marist has hosted with the first being men's lacrosse contest against Bryant in 2015.
  • UMBC's Frawley ranks 24th in the NCAA in goals per game averaging 2.71 He'll go up against a Marist scoring defense that ranks 27th in the NCAA that allows an average of 10.56 goals per game.
