Rider Pulls Away, Defeats Marist

Red Foxes Drop MAAC Game At McCann Arena

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated by Rider, 69-52, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at McCann Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
Summary
  • Rider scored the game's first nine points as Marist went scoreless in the first five-and-a-half minutes.
  • Marist took its first lead at 16-15 on a three-pointer by Braden Bell at the 5:22 mark of the first half. On Rider's next possession, Matt Herasme had a steal, and fed it ahead to Bell for a dunk which forced a Rider timeout.
  • The score was tied at 24 apiece after 20 minutes.
  • Back-to-back three-pointers by Herasme and Tyler Sagl staked Marist to a game-high lead of six with 17:43 remaining.
  • The Broncs answered with an 11-0 run. Dimencio Vaughn's three-pointer with 15:31 remaining put Rider ahead for good.
  • Rider's lead swelled to a game-high lead of 21 in the final minute before Marist scored the final four points.

  • Bell led Marist with nine points and three steals. He also contributed two assists, one rebound, and one blocked shots.
  • Matt Herasme had a team-high six rebounds to go along with eight points, three assists, and two steals. He played all 40 minutes.
  • Vaughn had game highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds. He scored his 1,000th career point in the game.
  • Rider outrebounded Marist, 45-28. The Broncs had 15 offensive rebounds, and a 20-4 edge in second chance points.

  • Sjoberg has blocked six shots in his last two games. His 75 career blocked shots rank 10th in program history, and he is one away from tying Tomasz Cielebak for ninth place.
  • Herasme played all 40 minutes for the first time in his career. That total is also a single-game high for a Red Fox this season.
  • This was the third time this season Marist was tied at halftime. The Red Foxes are now 0-3 when trailing at the half.
