NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Marist men's swimming & diving won its fourth straight dual meet on Friday afternoon, taking down non-conference foe Southern Connecticut State by a score of 193.5-104.5. It is now nearing three months since the Red Foxes last lost a dual meet.
With the win, Marist improves to 10-2 overall on the season, remaining 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, SCSU drops to 2-4 overall on the year.
- The men's team opened with a first-place victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team consisting of Ahmed Sallam, Jackson Klarsfeld, Pavel Makarchuk, and Michael O'Donovan clocked in at 1:35.53
- Adam Kapusta was once again the star of the men's side, following up last week's award-worthy performance with another outstanding day today. He started things off for the men by winning the 1000-yard free with a time of 9:39.59. He then showed his versatility by securing first in the 200-yard back (1:53.19), as well as the 400-yard IM (4:09.38).
- Murray Coueslant had a solid all-around performance in today's meet, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200-yard free (1:43.91). He also muscled up second place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and the 100-yard butterfly.
- Sallam continued his impressive performance in free style events, taking first in the 100-yard free with a time of 46.83. He also came in second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:44.00
- David Gallino stepped up in the absence of Raislan Aiken, sweeping both diving events. He cruised to a 20-point margin of victory in the 1-meter dive, scoring 253.28. Then in the 1-meter dive, he snuck out a two-point victory (over teammate Tyler Wenzel) with a score of 161.25.
- Other first place finishes in the meet included Ante Dany (50-yard free – 22.46), Klarsfeld (200-yard breast – 2:11.10), O'Donovan (500-yard free – 4:45.26), and Makarchuk (100-yard butterfly – 51.17).
Aiken of the Marist men's diving team is currently competing in the Navy Diving Invitational, day one of which took place at the same time as today's meet against the Owls. The four teams competing in the event are Marist, Navy, Penn State and Liberty. During day one of the competition, Aiken participated in the 3-meter diving portion of the competition. He advanced through the preliminary round by scoring 265.55 points, and then placed seventh overall with a score of 265.50. Stay tuned for a full recap of the event, which will come tomorrow.
The Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie for their final home meet of the 2019-20 season on Saturday, January 25. Marist will host Bryant beginning at 11 a.m. This meet will also serve as senior day for all four Marist teams.
