Marist’s Sagl Named MAAC Rookie Of The Week

Freshman Guard Averages 20 Points Per Game In Two Contests

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Freshman guard Tyler Sagl of the Marist men's basketball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. In the Red Foxes' two games last week, Sagl averaged 20.0 points per game, drained nine three-pointers, and shot .474 from three-point range.
 
Against Manhattan on Jan. 22, Sagl scored a career-high 23 points in Marist's 75-73 overtime victory. He shot 6-for-12 from the field, 5-for-9 from three-point range, and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Sagl scored 10 of the team's 13 points in overtime, and went 4-for-4 from the line in the final 30 seconds of the extra period.
 
Sagl followed this performance with 17 points at Siena on Jan. 24. He shot 4-for-10 from three-point range, and also contributed a steal.
 
Sagl leads the team with 36 three-pointers made, and is averaging a team-best 11.2 points per game in MAAC play. He is shooting .387 from three-point range and .875 from the free-throw line.
 
Sagl is the second Red Fox to be named MAAC Rookie of the Week this season, following Tyler Saint-Furcy's honor on Nov. 11.
 
Marist returns to action this weekend in western New York. The Red Foxes will play at Niagara on Friday at 7 p.m., and at Canisius on Sunday at 2 p.m.
