RICHMOND, Virginia – The Marist men's lacrosse team hung tough with #19 Richmond, but the Spiders pulled away in the fourth quarter and picked up a 13-11 victory. The score was tied after three quarters, but Richmond came alive early in the fourth and, despite a late comeback attempt from the Red Foxes, picked up iy=ts first victory of the season.
With the loss, Marist falls to 1-1 on the season, and 0-1 on the road. The Spiders improve to 1-1 overall for the year as well, and are now 1-1 at home.
- Richmond scored the first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead, but Jamison Embury answered quickly at the 7:23 mark of the first quarter to even up the score.
- The Spiders scored the next two goals, but the Red Foxes answered with two unanswered goals of their own to close out the first quarter, including a buzzer beating goal from Jojo Pirreca with just one second left on the game clock.
- The score was tied 3-3 heading into the second quarter, and neither team was able to pull away throughout the entire period. Richmond and Marist each traded three pairs of goals, bringing the score to 6-6 with neither team leading by more than one goal. That is what the score remained until halftime.
- The Spiders seized some momentum out of the gate in the third period, scoring two quick goals. However, James Lyons was able to answer with his fourth goal of the season to cut Richmond's lead to 8-7 at the 9:07 mark of the third quarter.
- Both defenses were stout for the next nine minutes, but with one second left on the clock, Lyons scored his second goal of the game, and Marist's second buzzer beater of the day, to even the score at 8-8 heading into the final quarter of play.
- Richmond would score five of the first six goals in the fourth quarter, to take a 13-9 lead.
- The Red Foxes wouldn't quit, answering with two quick goals, but it was too late. The Spiders hung on to win 13-11.

- For the fifth time in his career, Smith tallied double-digit ground balls.

- The Red Foxes will take on their second nationally ranked opponent in as many games, as they host #14 Army West Point on Tuesday, February 18.
