POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team earned a landmark program victory on Tuesday afternoon, as the Red Foxes defeated #9/7 Army West Point, 17-9, at Tenney Stadium. After a tightly contested first quarter, the Red Foxes were able to hold the Black Knights scoreless for nearly 30 minutes and extend out to a nine-goal lead in the third quarter, which they would never relinquish.Â
With the victory, Marist improves to 2-1 on the season, and 2-0 in in Poughkeepsie. Meanwhile, that was the first loss of the season for the Cadets, as they fall to 3-1 overall on the year.

- Army started the scoring, as Miles Silva found the back of the net at the 13:31 mark to give the Black Knights a 1-0 lead. However, Jojo Pirreca would have none of it, evening the score just about two minutes later with his seventh goal of the season.Â
- The Red Foxes seized some momentum, as goals from Jamison Embury, Joe Tierney, Jason Intermesoli, and Pirreca put Marist in front 5-3 towards the end of the first quarter.Â
- The Black Knights received another score from Silva, and cut the Red Foxes' lead to just 5-4. However, at that point the Red Foxes took total control of the game.Â
- Jake Weinman scored at the end of the first quarter, to bring the lead to 6-4, and then Marist went on a 3-0 extended run throughout the second period to take a 9-4 lead into the halftime locker room. This was after holding the Cadets scoreless in the second quarter.Â
- Marist kept its foot on the gas at the start of the third quarter, scoring the next four goals to make it an extended 8-0 run which was capped by an impressive goal from Vito Musso that increased the Red Foxes' lead to 13-4.Â
- After being held scoreless for nearly 30 minutes, the Black Knights scored two of the next three goals at the end of the third period to cut Marist's lead to 14-6.Â
- The Red Foxes and Army traded goals the rest of the way, and Marist went on to win 17-9.Â

- Jamison Embury led the Red Foxes with four goals and three assists, totaling a game-high seven points.
- Weinman had a hat trick, which included a highlight-reel behind-the-back goal at the 14:18 mark of the second quarter. Pirreca, who also had two goals, tallied one of his three assists on the play.
- Joe Tierney also had three goals, on two goals and an assist.Â
- Peyton Smith won 17 of 28 face-offs (61 percent), and also chipped in 10Â ground balls and two assists.
- Jake MacGregor made 16 saves in net for Marist, helping lead what was a dominant defensive performance.Â
- JT Roselle also played a major role in the stout defensive effort, causing five turnovers and scooping up four ground balls. He even had a goal and an assist.Â
- Silva led Army with five goals in the game.Â
- The Black Knights had the advantage in shots, 45-38, but the Red Foxes held the edge in shots on goal, 27-25.Â

- The #9/7 Black Knights were the highest ranked team the Red Foxes have defeated in the history of the program.Â
- This was the Red Foxes' third win over a ranked opponent in the last five years, and its first since a 10-4 win at Air Force exactly three years ago to the day.
- This was the first time Marist men's lacrosse has defeated a ranked team at Tenney Stadium in the history of the program.Â
- Head Coach Keegan Wilkinson has now beaten four ranked teams in his tenure at Marist, including a win over #11 Albany in 2011 as an assistant coach.Â
- It was a career day for Jamison Embury, who's three assists and seven points set new career-highs, and he matched his previous career-high with four goals.Â
- Roselle's five caused turnovers also marked a new-career high.Â
- Pirreca's five points matched a career-high he set earlier this year.Â
- MacGregor's 16 saves and four ground balls both marked season-high totals.Â
- Smith tallied double-digit ground balls for the second straight game, and sixth time in his career.Â

- The Red Foxes look to keep this momentum going, as they prepare to host the Hartford Hawks on Tuesday, February 25, in the final game of their quick two-game home stand.Â
