Women’s Tennis Falls Short Of Binghamton

Gabay Wins Again In No. 1 Singles

WAPPINGERS FALLS, New York – Junior captain Julia Gabay tallied her fourth dual match win of the season in No. 1 singles as Marist sustained a 6-1 home loss to Binghamton on Saturday night at the Cross Court Tennis Club.
 
The Red Foxes suffer their fourth-consecutive loss, giving them a 2-4 record in dual matches. The Bearcats improve to 2-7 on the year.
 
DOUBLES
  • Senior Amy Galloway and junior Sophia Chavarria won their third-straight doubles match in the third position, dispatching Kyra Bergmann and Jamie Lau 6-2.
  • Binghamton won the next two, however, to take the doubles point.
  • In the top flight, Gabay and junior captain Sam Galu fell to Michelle and Samara Eisenberg 6-3.
  • Senior Jada Tijani and sophomore Madison Price came up short against Regina Furer and Ashley Granieri 6-2.
 
SINGLES
  • The Bearcats' Lara Kaplan was first to win her match, beating Galloway 6-3, 6-3 in the sixth position.
  • Price was defeated in the second flight 2-6, 3-6 by Michelle Eisenberg.
  • A tight first set in the No. 3 singles between Chavarria and Furer went to the latter, 7-6 (7-5). Furer then won the second set 6-1 to take the match and clinch the win for Binghamton.
  • With the match decided, Gabay and Samara Eisenberg went to a tiebreak to 10 after both sides won a set each in the top billing. After a 1-6, 6-4 result, Gabay outlasted Eisenberg 10-6 for Marist's first point of the evening.
  • Freshman Nina McAllan also went to a tiebreak, winning the seoncd set 6-0 after falling 5-7 to Lau earlier. Playing in the fourth flight for just the second time this year, McAllan fell 4-10 as Lau snagged the win.
  • The evening concluded with Galu taking Granieri to three sets. The Bearcat came out on top, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
