Women’s Lacrosse to Face Off Against Rutgers

Red Foxes Looking for First Win in 2020 Home Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist Women's lacrosse welcomes the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to Poughkeepsie on Saturday, February 22. The game will be the 2020 home opener for the Red Foxes, as they look to pick up their first win of the season against the undefeated Scarlet Knights. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes fell to Cornell 18-13 on February 19th in Ithaca, New York.
  • Senior Samantha Mehalick and Junior Alexandra Di Chiara led the Marist attack with three goals each. Juniors Romy Villemure and Devon Connolly both added two goals each.   
  • Villemure also added an assist, caused two turnovers, and collected five draw controls.  
  • Mehalick tallied seven draw controls, which were a career-high.
  • Freshman Kerri Gutenberger scored her first collegiate goal.
  • Marist is now 0-2 against Cornell in the history of the program.
 
LAST TIME VS RUTGERS
  • Marist last took on Rutgers in New Jersey on February 16, 2019.
  • Rutgers came out on top last season, 13-9.
  • Mehalick scored 4 goals in the loss.
  • Connolly added a hat trick and an assist.
  • Junior Goalkeeper Delaney Galvin tallied 9 saves.
  • Three Scarlet Knights had hat tricks in the win.
  • Rutgers Samantha Budd had a game high 5 points.                                           
 
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
  • Rutgers finished 2019 with a record of 5-11 and 0-6 in the Big Ten. 
  • The Scarlet Knights were picked to finish last in the Big Ten in the preseason poll this season.
  • Senior Samantha Budd, Junior Taralyn Naslonski, and Freshman Cassidy Spilis were named Big Ten Players to Watch.
  • Rutgers is coming off of a 13-11 win against Delaware last time out.
  • Christine Long led the Scarlet Knight attack with four goals in the game.
  • Claire D'Antonio scored a hat trick against the Fightin' Blue Hens.
