LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania – The Marist men's lacrosse team was defeated by the Bucknell Bison, 20-11, on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes didn't quit after trailing 12-3 at the half, rallying to trim the deficit to just five, but Bucknell was able to fend off the Marist run and coast to the victory.
With the loss, the Red Foxes fall to 3-2 on the season, and 0-2 on the road. Meanwhile, the Bison improve to 4-1 overall on the year.
- The Bison got off to a blazing start, scoring six of the first seven goals of the game, four coming from Will Yorke, to take a 6-1 lead.
- The Red Foxes scored the final two goals of the first quarter, capped by a beautiful goal from Michael Smith, to trim the deficit to 6-3.
- Bucknell fired on all cylinders in the second quarter, holding Marist scoreless throughout the frame. The Bison used a 6-0 run in the quarter to take a 12-3 lead into halftime.
- The Red Foxes still had some fight left in them, scoring the first four goals of the third quarter, including the first goal of the season for face-off specialist Peyton Smith.
- Despite trimming the deficit to just five at the 8:38 mark of the third quarter, Bucknell was able to fend off the run, and score the final five goals of the third quarter to extend its lead to 17-7.
- The Bison went on to win 20-11.
- Marist is now 0-6 all-time against Bucknell.
- Intermesoli's four assists mark a new career-high. He has 10 assists already for the year, which is also a new career-high for a season.
- Stofko's four ground balls and three caused turnovers were his highest totals as a Red Fox.
- Zukowski's two caused turnovers matches his career-high that he set back in 2018.
- Smith's goal was his first of the season, and second of his career. He also went 13-22 on faceoffs in the game, and scooped up two ground balls.
- Tyler Ammairato tallied his first assist, point, and caused turnover of the season.
- Andrew Evans' five face-off wins were the most of his career.
- The Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie to take on the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens.
- The game is set for Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
