Marist Football’s McElroy Signs Pro Contract In Germany

Nearly Two Dozen Red Foxes Have Gone On To Play Professional Football

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Safety Andrew McElroy of the Marist football team has signed a professional contract to play for the Dresden Monarchs in Germany. The Monarchs are a member of the first tier German Football League.
 
McElroy played for the Red Foxes from 2015-19. He was a three-year starter who played in all 44 of the team's games the last four seasons.
 
In 2019, McElroy was a national semifinalist for the prestigious Campbell Trophy, a First Team Pioneer Football League All-Academic Team selection, a PFL Honorable Mention choice, and was named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll. In his final collegiate game, he returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown to seal a 26-14 victory at Valparaiso, and was named PFL Defensive Player of the Week the following day.
 
In his career, McElroy tallied 106 tackles, 10.5 stops for loss, and three forced fumbles. He was also named Second Team PFL All-Academic in 2017 and 2018, and he is of three players in program history to be named to the PFL Academic Honor Roll five times in his career.
