POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – It's another busy weekend across the Marist Athletics landscape. A total of seven programs will be in action from Friday through Sunday. The lone home contest of the weekend is men's soccer hosting Quinnipiac on Saturday night.
Football opens PFL play at Valparaiso, cross country competes at the historic Paul Short Run, women's tennis competes at the ITA Regionals, while volleyball and women's soccer continue MAAC play on the road.

- Women's tennis will compete in the ITA Regionals at West Point from Friday through Sunday.
- The Marist women's tennis team competed in their first fall tournament since the fall of 2019 two weeks ago
- The team tallied double-digit combined wins at the Saint Joseph's Invitational two weeks ago, with every single Red Fox gaining a win in either her singles or doubles match.
- Junior Vanessa Ciano was victorious in straight sets in her first two matches and led Marist in singles play with three wins.
- Freshman Andriana Zaphiris and Ciano competed in the second doubles flight together, getting a win in the main draw against Saint Joseph's. This was Zaphiris' first win as a Red Fox. But they fell short in their next match.
- The women's team is going into the ITA Northeast Regionals after a week off from competition. Sophomores Deana Giambo and Jane Bockman represent the Red Foxes as a doubles pair and two singles entries.

- The women's and men's teams are ready to go on Friday morning at the Paul Short Run, which will be held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
- Both teams are coming off the Jasper Invitational last week.
- The men's team placed fifth at the Jasper Invitational.
- The women's team placed second at the Jasper Invitational.
- The men's team had 5 Red Foxes place in the top 30.
- Red shirt freshman John Ignacz had paced the Red Foxes with a 15th place finish over the 8-km course, with a personal best time of 26:20.7, placing 1st among his fellow teammates.
- Lead runner Chris Paxis did not race in the past event to prepare for the Paul Short Run this weekend.
- On the women's side, three Red Foxes finished in the top seven last week, paced by a fourth-place finish from Hayley Collins.

- Coming off win against Canisius, the Red Foxes boosted their unbeaten MAAC record to 2-0-1, and have an overall record of 3-2-2.
- Sophomore Chance Hendricks netted her first collegiate goal off an assist by freshman Autumn Smith, which marked her first collegiate point as well.
- The squad did not lose once in the month of September, going 3-0-2. They are now on the road for two matches after an undefeated three-game homestand.
- Marist travels to MAAC opponent Quinnipiac this Saturday. The game starts at Noon.
- The Red Foxes are 3-4-2 against Quinnipiac since 2013, with a 3-0-1 home record in the regular season, but a 0-4-1 record on the road. The Bobcats have won the last two times these squads have met, including Marist's only game of 2020-21.
- In that contest, senior Natalie Kelchner made a career-high 13 saves.

- The Marist volleyball team (8-8, 3-2 in MAAC play) won versus Quinnipiac three sets to one on Wednesday.
- Sophomore Jordan Newblatt led both teams with three aces, and McKinley Fox had 45 assists. Madelyn Waumans had 21 kills and 13 digs. Alyssa White had nine blocks.
- The team travels to Saint Peter's University (1-13, 0-3 in MAAC play) to play yet another MAAC opponent. The match starts at 1 p.m.
- This is the sixth MAAC contest for Marist, who has won three in a row over Manhattan, Iona, and Quinnipiac in its recent three-match homestand.
- The Red Foxes are 28-15 against the Peacocks since 1991, with a current two-game winning streak. Marist is 13-9 at home and 15-3 on the road, with the most recent matchup going in Marist's favor.
- In addition, the team plays Rider this Sunday. The Red Foxes are 29-17 against the Broncs since 1993 and have won the last matchup. They currently have 15-4 home record and a 12-10 road record. First serve is set for 1 p.m.

Game Notes
- Marist football (0-2) travels to Valparaiso on Saturday, which opens Pioneer Football League play for the team. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. Eastern.
- The team is coming off a loss before a record home crowd of over 6,100 at its home opener against Bryant, falling 34-17. The first score for the Red Foxes came with 21 seconds left in the first half to Mekhai Johnson.
- Dwayne Menders Jr. was the highlight of the game, as he tied the school's single-game receptions record with 12 receptions on 13 targets for 146 yards and the only other touchdown for the team. On the season, Menders leads the team with 15 receptions for 159 yards.
- Defensively, Mike Arrington leads the team with 23 tackles, followed by Jayden Johnson with 21. Arrington's 13 against Bryant this past Saturday are the most by a Red Fox this season.
- Marist is 8-1 against the Beacons with a perfect 4-0 home record, and are 4-1 on the road since 2009.
- The last time these squads met, Marist came out with a 26-14 win and 321 total yards of offense, which included 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Hunter Cobb. The defense came up with two interceptions, one being returned 90 yards for a touchdown by Andrew McElroy to seal the win in the final seconds.

- The Marist men's soccer team (4-4-1, 1-0-0 in MAAC play) came off a road win against their its MAAC opponent Canisius on Wednesday.
- Junior forward Stefan Copetti scored his third goal of the year in the 16th minute, and graduate captain Huib Achterkamp scored in the 33rd minute. Graduate forward Kyle Galloway rounded out the scoring just under one minute out of halftime, giving him a match-best four points.
- Copetti is on a five-game points streak and is tied for the most goals on the team at three with Achterkamp.
- Marist hosts its second MAAC opponent this Saturday, when Quinnipiac comes to town. The match starts at 7 p.m. It marks the lone official contest on the Marist campus this weekend.
- Quinnipiac was picked first in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Bobcats are 6-2 overall, and won their MAAC opener against Siena on Wednesday, 3-2.
