Men’s Lacrosse Announces Hiring of JD Colarusso

Hudson Valley Product Has Extensive Resume With Scholastic, Collegiate, & Professional Experience

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist head men's lacrosse coach Keegan Wilkinson is proud to announce the hiring of JD Colarusso as assistant coach ahead of the 2022 season.

No stranger to the Hudson River Valley, Colarusso arrives with an expansive resume across high school, collegiate, and professional lacrosse. Most recently, this summer he was the starter for the professional lacrosse team the Atlas Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League.  Playing with the world's best lacrosse players, Colarusso helped lead the Atlas to a 4-1 record in his five regular season starts and a number 2 seed in the PLL playoffs.
 
"We are extremely excited to welcome JD to the Marist lacrosse family," Marist head coach Keegan Wilkinson said. "Our staff and student-athletes are very fortunate to welcome someone on staff that has the experience that JD has both at the collegiate and professional levels as a player. His ability to connect with our athletes about his own experiences playing at the highest levels is invaluable, paired with his overall love and passion for the sport is something that we all share in this program, made it very clear that he would be a great addition to our team. Throughout the interview process it was easy to see why his peers and former coaches spoke so incredibly highly of him. We are all excited to get to work with Coach Colarusso, he will be a great addition to Marist College and the athletic department."
 
Prior to his last two years in the PLL, Colarusso attended the University of Albany where he had an outstanding career. In his first year as a starting goalkeeper he received America East All-Conference Second Team and All-Tournament Team. That same year he led the America East with a 53.6% save rate. In 2018 he helped lead Albany to new heights as a program, guiding them to a number 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and their first Final Four appearance in program history.  For his outstanding work Colarusso, was named the 2018 USILA Most Outstanding Goalkeeper, First Team All-American by USILA and Inside Lacrosse. He was also named to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team. He finished his college career Top-10 in Division 1 in goals against average and save percentage.

In high school, Colarusso was a local star as a four-year letterwinner in goal at Arlington High where he earned All-America honors as a senior. He was also a First Team MSG Varsity and Poughkeepsie Journal Player of the Year in 2013. He received all section honors his sophomore and junior seasons. He also led Arlington to a league title in 2011. Lastly, Calarusso was a team captain his junior and senior years.

Colarusso, who spent the abbreviated 2020 season as an assistant coach at SUNY New Paltz, is known as an extremely hard worker, who has the game of lacrosse in his blood. His father, Joe Colarusso, was a standout goalie at Yorktown, which has been one of the top lacrosse programs in Section 1 for decades.
 
Colarusso looks to bring his determination, reliable work ethic and his gritty attitude to the Marist Men's Lacrosse program for their upcoming season.
