POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's soccer team shut out Manhattan, 3-0, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at a rainy Tenney Stadium on Saturday night.
- Neither team scored in the first half, although Marist had a 12-2 lead in total shots, a 3-2 edge in corner kicks, and a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal.
- Andre Cutler-DeJesus had a point-blank opportunity in the 30th minute that was stopped by Manhattan keeper Hunter Kochiss.
- The Red Foxes broke the ice in the 56th minute when Stefan Copetti tucked a shot on the ground just inside the far post. The goal was set up by Richard Morel and Justin Scharf.
- Marist extended its lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute, when Kyle Galloway converted off a rebound. Justin Rodriguez was credited with an assist.
- Huib Achterkamp closed out the scoring in the 84th minute, with Sam LaTorre earning an assist.
- Marist finished with a 25-9 advantage in shots, and a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.
- Copetti led all players with seven shots.
- Omar Torres led Manhattan with three shots. Noah Boyce had a shot on goal.
- Copetti has now scored a goal in seven straight matches, and has a point in 10 straight.
- Achterkamp's goal was his fourth of the season; Galloway's was his third.
- Marist has scored multiple goals in five of its six MAAC matches this season.
- Samuel Ilin had his third individual clean sheet of the season.
"I think it was a mature, professional performance by us tonight," head coach Matt Viggiano said. "Obviously the elements weren't great. We needed to do our jobs, and I think the guys did that. I'm pleased with the result, we got another three points, we defended our home turf, and now we can turn the page and look forward to the first-place team on Wednesday, down at Monmouth."
- Marist is now 7-6-1 this season, and 4-2 in the MAAC.
- Manhattan fell to 2-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 in conference.
- Marist travels to first-place Monmouth on Wednesday.
