Men’s Soccer Advances to MAAC Championship Match

Red Foxes Down Monmouth in Semifinals on Gracindo’s Goal

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The top-seeded Marist men's soccer team is headed to the MAAC championship game for the first time since 2005.
 
Bernardo Gracindo netted his first goal as a Red Fox on a pass from Kyle Galloway as the Red Foxes defeated the seventh-seeded Monmouth Hawks 1-0 on Thursday night at Tenney Stadium.
 
First Half
  • Monmouth got the first opportunity of the match less than two minutes in when Griffin Tomas fired a shot off the right post.
  • Marist's first chance came in the 11th minute when Joe Mac crossed it to the head of Richard Morel, but the shot went over the crossbar.
  • In the 17th minute Kyle Galloway sent in a cross to Morel, but he was unable to find the target.
  • In the 21st minute Monmouth's Julian Gomez fired a shot from just outside the box that went wide right.
  • The Red Foxes got a quality chance in the 24th minute when Galloway dropped it back to Stefan Copetti inside the box, but he blasted the ball way over.
  • In the 33rd minute Justin Scharf sent in a cross and Copetti was there for a one-time shot that drilled the right post.
  • Antek Sienkiel got the first shot on target for the Red Foxes in the 41st minute, but Sean Murray was there to make his first save of the contest.
 
Second Half
  • Five minutes into the second half Huib Achterkamp took a shot after a corner kick, but Monmouth defenders were there to make the stop and clear the ball.
  • In the 62nd minute Jonas Lyshoj fired a shot on target that Sam Ilin easily stopped for his first save of the night.
  • Marist got a good chance went Copetti got the ball running towards the right sideline and cut it back to Galloway who fired a one-time shot that just barely went over the crossbar.
  • Luke McBeth fired a shot from outside the box in the 73rd minute, but Illin was there for the save.
  • In the 81st minute Galloway sent the ball to Bernardo Gracindo who made a move on his defender and fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead.
  • Henrique Cruz nearly gave the Red Foxes an insurance goal in the 89th minute when he ripped a shot on target, but Murray made the save.
 
Stats & Notes
  • The Red Foxes outshot the Hawks 15-13
  • Corners also favored the Red Foxes, 5-1
  • The Red Foxes' defense recorded their ninth shutout of the season, and Ilin recorded his seventh clean sheet.
  • Galloway recorded an assist for the second straight game
