POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – For the second straight week, freshman guard
Jao Ituka of the Marist men's basketball team has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
Ituka averaged a team-best 16.0 points along with 3.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 1.0 assists in Marist's two games this past week. He shot .684 (13-for-19) from the field and drained his only three-point attempt.
On Wednesday at Binghamton, Ituka had 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting to go along with four rebounds, two steals, and an assist in the Red Foxes' 64-51 victory. He had seven points and an assist in a 17-3 second-half run that gave Marist the lead for good against the Bearcats. On Sunday against Navy, Ituka finished with 17 points, three rebounds, an assist, and a blocked shot. He shot 6-for-9 from the field.
For the season, Ituka is averaging 10.8 points per game and shooting .565 (39-for-69) from the field.
After a week off for final exams, the Marist men's basketball team will return to action on Saturday at Boston University. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
