POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's lacrosse team announced its 2022 schedule on Tuesday. The Red Foxes have 16 games on their schedule, with eight non-conference games followed by eight contests against MAAC opponents.
Marist opens the 2022 season on a road trip, with opening day coming on Sunday, Feb. 20 at UMass Lowell of the America East Conference. The Red Foxes will take on the River Hawks who finished last season 4-8, with a conference record of 3-6.
The Red Foxes' next two games will be at home against New York State foes. On Saturday, Feb. 26, Marist will host Army in its home opener. The Black Knights went 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the Patriot League before falling to Lehigh in the tournament semifinals. Then, on Wednesday, March 2, the Red Foxes will host LIU, who finished last season 9-5 overall and 7-4 in conference play. The Sharks dropped their conference tournament semifinal to Wagner.
The March schedule continues with a pair of America East foes: at Binghamton (Saturday, March 5) and home against Vermont (Wednesday, March 9). Binghamton went 3-5 overall and in conference last year. Vermont was 6-3 in America East play, 6-6 overall, and reached the conference tournament semifinals.
The non-conference slate continues with a home match-up against Hofstra on Saturday, March 12. The Pride reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Spring Break will feature a road contest against Big 10 foe Ohio State on Tuesday, March 15. The Red Foxes will then conclude non-conference play with a trip to Merrimack on Sunday, March 20.
Marist opens up the MAAC season with three home games in a row beginning on Saturday, March 26, when the Red Foxes will host Quinnipiac. The Red Foxes last played the Bobcats in the 2019 season, defeating them 10-9. Quinnipiac went 5-7 overall and 5-6 in MAAC play, and reached the MAAC quarterfinals. The next two contests are against the teams that appeared in last year's MAAC championship game: Siena (Wednesday, March 30) and Fairfield (Saturday, April 2). The Stags defeated the Saints in last year's final, and Fairfield has won three straight MAAC championships.
The three straight home games are followed by three straight road contests: Manhattan (Wednesday, April 6), Niagara (Wednesday, April 13), and Monmouth (Saturday, April 16). Manhattan reached the MAAC quarterfinals last season, while Niagara and Monmouth both advanced to the semifinals.
The Red Foxes' home regular-season finale will be against Canisius on Wednesday, April 20; the last match-up between Marist and Canisius was in the 2019 season where Marist earned a 19-14 win. The final game of the regular season will be on the Iona Gaels' turf on Saturday, April 23.
The MAAC Tournament this season will take place from April 30 to May 8. Six teams will qualify for this year's championship. The quarterfinal will round will be on Saturday, April 30. The semifinals will take place on Thursday, May 5, and the championship game will be on Sunday, May 8. The higher seed will host each contest.
