WILLIAMSVILLE, New York – Marist Men's Tennis traveled to Niagara and picked up a 4-3 win at the Village Glen Tennis Courts on Friday evening.
The result sends the Red Foxes to 1-0, while the Purple Eagles move to 0-5 in the MAAC and 2-7 on the year.
- Niagara secured the doubles point to begin the match.
- Two newcomers paired up to give Marist the win in the first position, as junior Dylan Friedman and freshman Gabriel Castillo overmatched Jorge Sedeno and Manuel Alonso 6-1.
- The Purple Eagles captured the other flights, however. Seniors John Oxner and Nestor Giribet Lopez fell to Bruno Goncalves and William Gothlin 3-6, while senior Piotr Sowinski and junior Jack Sequerth dropped a 4-6 decision to Eduardo Villalpanda and Pere Padro.
- Friedman started in the first flight against Alonso. After losing the first set 3-6, the Binghamton transfer won 6-2, 6-2 in the ensuing sets to snag the victory.
- In the second position, Oxner fell to Sedeno 6-3, 3-6, 0-6.
- Castillo slotted into the third flight in his first-career match and registered a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Gothlin.
- The fourth flight featured a tight contest between Giribet Lopez and Padro, but the Red Fox pulled away 7-5, 7-5.
- Sowinski operated out of the fifth spot and was victorious over Villalpanda, 6-3, 6-2.
- In the sixth flight, Gonzalez Bonorino and Bruno Goncalves squared off in a marathon match, but the Red Fox was outlasted 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 5-10.
