POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season on Saturday night with a 14-7 triumph over Manhattan at Tenney Stadium.
After trailing 4-2 at halftime, the Red Foxes erupted for 12 goals in the final 30 minutes, including seven in the final quarter.
- Manhattan jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Vito Musso scored twice to tie the game. The score was knotted at two after the first 15 minutes.
- The score remained tied at two until Manhattan scored twice in the final 21 seconds of the second quarter. Justin Malpica's buzzer-beater gave the Jaspers a 4-2 halftime lead.
- The Red Foxes then scored three goals (Joe Tierney, Musso, JT Roselle) in the first 2:58 of the third quarter.
- Jamison Embury added two goals in a 22-second span later in the third. The Red Foxes held a 7-6 lead after 45 minutes.
- The Red Foxes outscored the Jaspers 7-1 in the final period. Musso and Jojo Pirreca each scored twice in the fourth quarter.
- Musso led Marist with five goals.
- Andrew Evans won 13-of-24 face-offs and had a team-best six ground balls.
- Sam Ahlgrim had a team-high two caused turnovers to go along with a goal and three ground balls.
- Logan Covey stopped 13 Manhattan shots.
- Kyle Gucwa had two goals and an assist for Manhattan. Brendan Krebs had 17 saves.
- Marist had a 58-43 advantage in shots, and a 31-20 edge in shots on goal.
- Musso tied his career high with five goals. He tallied a team-high 13 goals in Marist's three regular-season games.
- Ahlgrim, a graduate student, and senior Kyle Dizon both scored their first career goals in the fourth quarter.
- Roselle and David Moyett also scored their first goals of the season.
- Marist has now won four straight against Manhattan.
- Marist is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the MAAC.
- Manhattan is 4-4 on the season and 4-3 in conference play.
Marist will play in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Championships on Friday, April 30.
