LOS ANGELES, California - The Marist water polo team was defeated 25-4 by the #1 University of Southern California in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship on Friday afternoon. 

 

SUMMARY

• The Trojans struck first and used a 3-0 run to quickly take the lead in the first quarter.
• Shinae Carrington was the first Red Fox to find the back of the net, cutting the deficit to just two midway through the first period. 
• Myriam Lizotte and Justine Castro also scored goals in the first quarter, but USC led 7-3 heading into the second. 
• Castro struck again in the second quarter, but the Trojans outscored the Red Foxes 7-1 in the second and led 14-4 at halftime. 
• Viktoria Orlova scored in the fourth quarter, but USC outscored Marist 10-1 in the second half and went on to win 25-4.

 

KEY STATS

• Castro had a team-high two goals for the Red Foxes.
• Kathryn McCullough had Marist's only assist. 
• Marina Hyham and Emilie Hilliard combined for eight saves, each playing a half in goal each. 
• Maud Megens and Bayley Weber each had a game-high four goals for the Trojans. 
• USC was 4-6 on the power play while the Red Foxes were 2-11.

•  Marist finishes the season 9-1.
• #1 USC improves to 20-1 on the season.
