Siena Overcomes First Half Deficit To Defeat Marist

Red Foxes Fall After Strong Second Half by the Saints

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist men's basketball dropped its second consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday night to the Siena Saints, 67-60. The Red Foxes move to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in MAAC play. The Saints improve to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
 
Summary
  • Siena took a quick 4-0 lead forcing a Marist timeout. The Red Foxes responded with a 14-0 run while holding Siena to a scoring drought that lasted over four minutes. The Red Foxes extended their outburst pushing it to a 21-5 run that lasted for over eight minutes. 
  • The Red Foxes had a scoring drought of their own for the ensuing three minutes as the Saints ended the half on a 6-0 run. The mini Siena run cut its deficit to 14, 38-24 in Marist's favor at the half.
  • Marist shot 52% (14-for-27) from the field, Siena shot 32%(10-for-31) from the field. The Red Foxes shot 5-for-8 (63%) from three, Siena shot 1-for-6 from deep in the first half.
  • Midway through the second, Siena fought to cut Marist's lead with a near nine minute 21-5 run. The Red Foxes turned the ball over five times in Siena's scoring run. 
  • Siena closed the game on a 22-8 run in the final seven minutes of action.

  • Jao Ituka shot 7-for-15 from the field and 2-for-3 behind the arc, collecting 20 points and five rebounds. It was his second time this season with 20+ points.
  • Ituka was one of three Red Foxes in double digits. Ricardo Wright (17) and Jordan Jones (10) were the others.
  • For the game Marist shot 24-for-53 (45.3%) from the field and 6-for-17 (35.3%) from three.
  • The Red Foxes got into foul trouble in the second half (14), sending the Saints to the line 18 times, converting on 15 of them.
  • Siena had four players in double-figures, led by Colby Rogers with 16 points.
