Marist Men's Basketball Dominant in Win Over Monmouth

The Red Foxes Went Wire-to-Wire in Victory Over Hawks

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team defeated the Monmouth Hawks Sunday afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play by a score of 84-48. With the win, the Red Foxes move to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in MAAC play. Monmouth is now 10-5 overall and 2-2 in conference.

  • Jao Ituka pushed the Red Foxes to a quick 5-0 lead in the first minute and half of the game.
  • A Monmouth scoring drought of six minutes allowed Marist to capitalized with a 7-0 run with 11 minutes remaining in the half, 20-9. 
  • With six minutes to go in the first half, the Hawks cut the lead to ten, shortly followed by a Red Fox 9-0 run to extend the lead to 19.
  • Marist finishing the half with yet another run elevating the Red Foxes to their largest lead of the half, 46-22. 
  • For the half, Marist shot 58% from the field (18-for-31), Monmouth shot 30% (8-for-27).

  • Seven minutes into the second half, the Red Foxes continued to add to their lead with an 8-0 run. Monmouth attempted to chip away at Marist's lead with a couple mini-runs but could not claw back from the deficit.
  • The Red Foxes largest lead of the game came at the 4:09 minute mark as the team led by 46.

  • Marist finished shooting 26-for 54 (48%) from the field and 10-for-23 (44%) from three.
  • Monmouth shot 16-for-56 (29%) from the field and 2-for-20 (10%) from the arc.
  • Four players on Marist scored in double digits, Jao Ituka (28), Ricardo Wright(24), Samkelo Cele (13) and Javon Cooley (10) 
  • Jao shot 7-for-11 from the field, 2-for-2 from three and 12-for-15 from the free throw line. 
  • Monmouth had one player in double digits, Shaver Reynolds (10). The Red Foxes held the Hawks to their season low in points (46).
  • The 36-point margin of victory is Marist's most since the program won by 38 against VMI on Feb. 23, 2013.
  • The margin of victory is also the program's largest in 25 years in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play eclipsing a 35 point victory on Feb. 3 2002 against Loyola (85-50).
