Men's Lacrosse Secures First Win of Season at Binghamton

Strong Second Half Lifted the Red Foxes Past the Bearcats

VESTAL, New York – Marist men's lacrosse defeated the Binghamton Bearcats in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon, 11-9. With their first win of the season, the Red Foxes move to 1-1 overall and Binghamton falls to 0-1 overall. 
 
Summary
  • James Lyons opened the scoring of the contest at 12:11 of the first quarter. 
  • Marist extended their lead quickly with a goal from Vito Musso from a Kellen Pulera assist, giving Marist a 2-0 lead at 8:13 in the first quarter. 
  • With :14 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Binghamton's Justin Roderka scored to cut their deficit to just one. 
  • Hunter Embury opened the second quarter with a goal to make the score 3-1.
  • Binghamton responded with three straight goals to take their first lead of the game. An assist from Lyons to Jojo Pirreca tied the game at four a piece. 
  • The Bearcats tallied three more goals to go into halftime with a 7-4 edge over the Red Foxes.
  • With a strong start to the second half, at 14:12 Pirreca collected a goal to cut Binghamton's lead to two goals. Marist continued on its run with four straight goals to take the lead 8-7.
  • The Bearcats ended the third quarter tying the game up at 8-8. 
  • Pulera and Musso added three more goals in the fourth to extend their lead by three. Binghamton would score the last goal of the game to pull withing two but Marist would clinch the 11-9 win.

  • Pulera led the Red Foxes with a hat trick, and a total of four points (three goals and one assist). 
  • Lyons, Musso and Pirreca had two goals each. Lyons and Musso finished with four points (two goals, two assists). 
  • Anthony Novellano finished the day with 13 saves and a .591 save percentage. 
  • Binghamton held the advantage in faceoffs, winning 14-of-22. 
  • The Bearcats were led by Kevin Winkoff with five points (three goals, two assists).
