A Successful MAAC Tournament Yields a Trip to Annapolis

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's and women's swimming & diving teams will continue their season at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships this weekend in Annapolis, Maryland. The tournament will run from Friday, February 25th to Sunday, February 27th.  
 

Last Time Out - Men
  • The last time the Red Foxes competed was at the MAAC Championships in Buffalo, New York.  

  • Marist found success, placing in 3rd place after four days of competition.  

  • For the men, the relay team of Ahmed Sallam, Chris Dauser, Pavel Makarchuk, and Ethan McCormac placed in second and broke a school record.  

  • Sallam also won the 50-yard freestyle and set a new school record for that event. He also set a record in the backstroke.  

  • Junior Tyler Wenzel placed in third in the 3-meter dive.  

Last Time Out - Women
  • The women were also very successful at the MAAC Championship. 

  • Grace Reeves, who was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Diver, won the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive.  

  • Veronica Stureborg placed in second with a time of 56.50 in the 100-meter backstroke. Stureborg also finished in third in the 200-meter backstroke. 

  • Freshman Madeline Healey placed second in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 1650 freestyle.

  • Pending the results of the ECAC Championships, Marist could have the chance to reach the NCAA Zone Qualifier Diving Championships. That event takes place from March 7th – March 9th.
