Red Foxes Score in Seventh to Take Game Two

ALBANY, New York – The Marist softball team split a doubleheader against UAlbany on Wednesday afternoon. After dropping the first game 5-4 in eight innings, the Red Foxes took game two by a score of 6-5.

Game One
  • Marist scored four runs in the top of the second, all with two outs. Shea Walsh's infield single brought home Alyssa Grupp with the game's first run. Then Sam Freeland cleared the bases with a triple, which scored Maddie Gore, Morgan Gianelle, and Walsh.
  • Maranda Jimenez's homer in the bottom of the second got the Great Danes on the board.
  • Morgan Petty's three-run homer in the fifth tied the score at four apiece.
  • Katie Falotico's double in the eighth brought home Petty with the game-winning run.
  • Freeland led Marist offensively by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
  • Maddie Pleasants pitched a complete game for the Red Foxes with three strikeouts.

Game Two
  • Gore drove in Miah McDonald with the game's first run in the top of the second.
  • An RBI double by Petty and a sacrifice fly by Jimenez gave UAlbany a 2-1 lead in the fourth.
  • Marist took the lead with a four-run fourth. Seven straight Red Foxes reached base in a rally that started with a one-out single by Ronni Howard. This was followed by a Hailee Jantorno single, a Walsh RBI double, a Freeland RBI single, Caroline Baratta being hit by a pitch, McDonald driving in a run on an error, and Lauren Morrell drawing a bases-loaded walk.
  • UAlbany tied the score in the bottom of the fifth. The Great Danes scored three runs, capped by a Maddi Petrella homer.
  • Marist scored the winning run in the seventh. Freeland led off the inning with a walk, and came home on Gore's sacrifice fly.
  • Meghan Haff made her first appearance coming back from injury since Feb. 27, and went five-plus innings. Calista Phippen then made her first appearance of the season after coming back from injury, and got the final six outs for the win.
