POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Freshman guard
Jao Ituka and sophomore guard
Ricardo Wright of the Marist men's basketball team were both honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday morning. Ituka was named Second Team All-MAAC and to the MAAC All-Rookie Team, while Wright was named Third Team All-MAAC.
Ituka was named MAAC Rookie of the Week eight times this season. He ranked third in the MAAC in scoring at 15.5 points per game, and eighth in field goal percentage at .529 in the regular season. He became the first Red Fox to be named Second Team All-MAAC since Khallid Hart in 2016-17. He's the first freshman in program history to be named to one of the three All-MAAC teams, and the fourth Red Fox in the last three years to be named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
Wright was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team last season, and increased his scoring average 2.6 points per game from his freshman year. His average of 13.6 points per game ranked 10
th in the MAAC in regular-season play. Wright has established himself as one of the conference's top long-distance shooters. He finished the regular season sixth in the MAAC in three-pointers per game (2.0) and seventh in percentage (.383).
This is the first time Marist has had multiple selections to the three all-conference teams since the 2012-13 season, when Adam Kemp and Chavaughn Lewis were named Third Team All-MAAC. With Ituka and Wright, Marist was just one of two teams in the conference to have multiple players rank in the top 10 in scoring, with Monmouth being the other.
The Marist men's basketball team is the #6 seed in the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Men's Basketball Championship.
