Softball Swept by Fairfield

Pleasants Hits First Collegiate Homer in Game Two

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team was swept by Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Gartland Field. The Red Foxes fell by scores of 5-3 in game one and 3-1 in game two.
 
Marist is now 16-24 overall and 4-6 in MAAC play.
 
Game One
  • Miah McDonald's two-run single in the bottom of the first drove home Shea Walsh and Caroline Baratta to give Marist a 2-0 lead.
  • Pinch-runner Ella Watson scored on an error in the fourth, which cut the Stags' deficit to 2-1.
  • McDonald's sacrifice fly in the fourth brought home Walsh, and gave Marist a two-run lead back.
  • Kasey Sekula's sacrifice fly brought home Kaitlin Hoffman in the sixth, which cut Marist's lead to 3-2.
  • Fairfield took its first lead with a three-run seventh. Megan Forbes hit a two-run double, and Sekula hit a sacrifice fly.
  • Fairfield outhit Marist, 7-3.
  • The Red Foxes committed four errors, while the Stags had two.
  • Kiley Myers pitched a complete game for Marist with six strikeouts. Two of the five runs she permitted were unearned.
  • McDonald drove in all three of Marist's runs, while Walsh scored twice.
  • Katie Kudlacik pitched a complete game for Fairfield.
 
Game Two
  • Alyssa Grupp's two-out double in the bottom of the second brought home pinch-runner Hannah Brock with the game's first run.
  • Fairfield scored all three of its runs in the top of the third. The inning included one hit, two walks, one wild pitch, a stolen base, and an error on play when two runs scored.
  • Maddie Pleasants led off the bottom of the seventh with her first collegiate home run. The Red Foxes got the tying run on base in the inning, but were unable to complete the comeback.
  • Marist outhit Fairfield, 5-4. McDonald, who went 2-for-3, was the only player in the game to have multiple hits.
  • Calista Phippen pitched a complete game for the Red Foxes with three strikeouts.
  • Lauryn Rhinehart pitched a complete for the Stags with 86 pitches.
