Men’s Lacrosse to Host Manhattan for in MAAC Semifinal Game

Red Foxes Look to Advance to Championship Saturday

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team is fired up following its overtime win last weekend, and now the Red Foxes are looking to take that energy with them into their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinal game against Manhattan College. The game will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 at Tenney Stadium.
 
Last Time Out
  • In their final MAAC regular season game, the Red Foxes hosted the Monmouth Hawks in a closely-fought game that resulted in an overtime win for the Red Foxes, 9-8.
  • Jojo Pirreca led the Red Foxes with five points, four goals and an assist. Pirreca scored two crucial goals in the last minute and a half of the game, forcing the game into overtime.
  • Jason Intermesoli scored both the opening goal of the game and the winning goal for the Red Foxes in overtime.
  • JT Roselle had a game to remember for the Red Foxes. During the game, Roselle broke two school records: single season caused turnovers (28) and career caused turnovers (58).
  • Goalkeeper Anthony Novellano was effective in net, finishing the game with 12 saves and a .600 save percentage.
  • Following this game, the Red Foxes finished the MAAC season with a 7-7 overall record, 5-1 in the MAAC. They won the MAAC regular-season co-championship and are the #2 seed in this weekend's championship.
 
Scouting Manhattan
  • The Manhattan College Jaspers are 6-6 overall this season, 4-2 in the MAAC. They finished 3rd in the MAAC regular season standings.
  • Their most recent game was against Monmouth as well, but won their match with the Hawks pretty comfortably, 11-4. Their leading goalscorer that game was Sean Mackinney, who netted 5 times.
  • While Mackinney scores a lot for the Jaspers, he is in 2nd for top scorer on the team. The team's top scorer and points leader is Kyle Gucwa, with 27 goals and 35 points.
  • The Jaspers have only had to rely on one goalkeeper this season: the ever-present Brendan Krebs. Krebs has made 130 saves this season, and currently sits at a .531 save percentage.
  • The last time the Red Foxes and the Jaspers met, the game was tightly-contested all the way through, but the Red Foxes prevailed, 13-12. Overall, Marist leads Manhattan, 15-11.

  • Jojo Pirreca currently leads the Red Foxes with 51 points. Pirreca has scored 29 goals and collected 22 assists on the season. Pirreca is first on the team with goals and second on the team for assists.
  • Against Siena, Jojo Pirreca led the Red Foxes with five points, four goals, and an assist. In the final three minutes of the game, Pirreca scored two goals to send the game into overtime. Pirreca also collected four groundballs in the game.
  • Novellano is averaging 13.79 saves per game, and has totaled 192 saves on the season.
  • Novellano notched his career high of 22 saves against Bucknell.
  • Kellen Pulera is second the team with 28 goals for the season.  
  • Jason Intermesoli leads the team with 23 assists on the season along with 12 goals.
  • James Lyons has scored 19 goals on the year along with 12 assists.

  • Novellano is fifth in the MAAC in save percentage, .527.
  • Pirreca is also second in the MAAC in points per game (3.64) and thirs in the MAAC in assists per game (1.57).
  • Jason Intermesoli has totaled 23 assists on the year, and is first in the MAAC in assists per game (1.77).
  • Marist's JT Roselle is first in the MAAC in caused turnovers, averaging 2.00 per game and 28 total.
