POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football program honored the memory of longtime coach Mike Malet prior to and during its game against Columbia on Saturday night at Tenney Stadium.
Â
Malet passed away on May 27 at the age of 74. He served as the program's first varsity head coach from 1978-88. Prior to that, Malet was an assistant coach when Marist football was a club program. His tenure in the Marist Athletics Department lasted a quarter century, and included a seven-year run as head men's lacrosse coach and time as an administrator.
Â
Mike's wife, Cindy; son, Chris; and grandsons Patrick and Aiden participated in the coin toss.

Â
This season, the Red Foxes are wearing decals with the initials "MM" on the back of their helmets. Following the first quarter, the Malet family was presented a helmet with the decal. In addition to Cindy, Chris, Patrick, and Aiden, participating in the ceremony were Mike's daughter-in-law Kelly; sister, Eileen Linn; and brother-in-law, Brian Linn. They were joined by Marist President Kevin Weinman and Director of Athletics
Tim Murray.
