DES MOINES, Iowa – The Marist football team earned a 30-25 win at Drake in its Pioneer Football League opener on Saturday at Drake Stadium.
 

Keys to the Game

• Trailing by one on its final drive, Amin Woods' six-yard rushing touchdown with 43 seconds left proved to be the game-winning score. The touchdown culminated a 14-play, 80-yard drive in 2:46.
• Brock Bagozzi had touchdowns passing, rushing, and receiving. Bagozzi went 4-for-6 for 51 yards with 13 rushing yards on the Red Foxes' final drive.

 

Marist Highlights

• A 55-yard punt by Dominic Donohue after Marist's first drive pinned Drake at its own nine.
• After Drake opened the scoring, Bagozzi flicked a pass to Glenmour Leonard-Osbourne, who took it in from nine yards out for his first career touchdown.
• Drake took a 10-7 lead after 15 minutes, but Marist took its first lead with 12:07 left in the second quarter as Scott Scherzer threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Bagozzi.
• On a fake field goal attempt, Tyhir Harley snuffed the play out and recorded a sack for a 12-yard loss.
• Bagozzi's four-yard rushing touchdown with 45 seconds left in the first half, and Marist led 21-10 after 30 minutes.
• Luke Paladino's 26-yard field goal culminated a 14-play, 66-yard drive to open the second half.
• A big stop by Aaron Acosta on a third-and-goal forced Drake to kick a field goal. The Red Foxes took a 24-13 lead into the fourth quarter.
• Drake scored 12 unanswered points to take a 25-24 lead with 3:36 remaining, which set the stage for Marist's game-winning drive.
• Marist did not allow a first down on Drake's final drive.

• Bagozzi finished 25-for-38 for 257 yards through the air.
• Scherzer and Woods led the Red Foxes with six receptions apiece. Woods had 14 carries for 50 yards, and six catches for 39 yards.
• Leonard-Osbourne paced the Red Foxes with 58 rushing yards on eight carries.
• Teddy Wright led the Marist defense with nine tackles, including one for a loss. Wright made the game-ending tackle on Drake quarterback Ian Corwin, who was scrambling on a fourth down play.
• Drake held a 429-387 edge in total yards.
• Marist led in time of possession, 31:00 to 29:00.
• Marist went 5-for-13 on third down and 2-for-2 on fourth down. Drake was 3-for-16 on third down and 3-for-6 on fourth down.
• Marist is now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the PFL. Drake is 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in the PFL.

 

Notes

• This was Marist's first win at Drake in five tries.
• Drake won the first eight meetings against the Red Foxes, but Marist has now defeated the Bulldogs in back-to-back years.
• Bagozzi's touchdown reception was his first career catch, and Scherzer's touchdown pass was on his first career pass attempts.
• Bagozzi, Leonard-Osbourne, and Woods all scored their first career touchdowns.
