Rider Tops Marist in Coach Giorgis’ Final Game

Red Foxes Fall in Opening Round of MAAC Championships

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – The seventh-seeded Marist women's basketball team was defeated by 10th-seeded Rider by a score of 63-50 in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Basketball Championships on Tuesday at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
 
The Red Foxes' season came to an end with a 12-18 record.
 
This marked the final game in the 21-year Marist career of head coach Brian Giorgis.
 
Summary
  • After Rider's Makalya Firebaugh drained a three on the game's opening possession, the Red Foxes countered with a 6-0 run which included two baskets by Zaria Shazer and one by Morgan Tompkins.
  • Marist was held scoreless for a span of 5:58, and Rider led 11-8 after the first quarter.

  • Marist honored four seniors and graduates on this year's Senior Night. Samantha Bailey and Julianna Bonilla were in their fourth year in the program, and Kendall Krick played her fifth season in 2022-23. Manager Isaiah Lawlor was with the program since his freshman year as well.
  • Bailey, Bonilla, and Krick were part of the the Red Foxes' MAAC regular-season championship team of 2019-20 and NCAA Tournament team in 2020-21.
  • Bailey, Bonilla, and Krick were all captains on this year's team.
