Men's Lacrosse Defeats LIU

Deacy Records His Third Career Hat Trick

BROOKVILLE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team collects a conference victory over LIU Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes defeated the Sharks 16-10.

  • The Red Foxes got off to a strong start as Jojo Pirreca and Sean Kelliher both finding the back of the next to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead on man-up opportunities.
  • LIU responded with two goals to tie it up with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • The Red Foxes and Sharks battle back and forth for the lead as James Lyons and Dylan Bedell scored giving Marist a 4-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • LIU opened the second quarter tying the game at four apiece.
  • The Red Foxes went on a five goal run to take a 9-4 lead. Joshua Balcarcel started the run with a goal assisted by Jamison Embury. Jamison Embury scored back to back goals. James Lyons and Stephen Bickel connected for a goal each during the five goal run.
  • The Sharks tacked on two goals to cut the lead to 9-6. Three seconds remaining in the first half, Jojo Pirreca brought the Red Foxes back to a four goal lead heading into halftime, 10-6.
  • Daniel O'Meara shut the Sharks out in the third quarter, collecting two saves.
  • Red Foxes extended their lead with four goals in the third. Two goals from Jake Deacy, Kellen Pulera and a goal from Vinny Butrico on a man-up opportunity. Marist heads into the fourth quarter 14-6.
  • LIU scores three straight to cut the Red Foxes lead to five.
  • At 8:07 in the fourth quarter, Jake Deacy completes the hat trick from a Jojo Pirreca assist.
  • Balcarcel scores his second goal of the game with three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
  • Marist closes out the game, defeating LIU 16-10.
