Men's Lacrosse Defeats VMI in Dominant Fashion

Red Foxes Pour in Season-High 18 Goals

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a dominant conference victory against the Virginia Military Institute Keydets. The Red Foxes won 18-7 on Senior Day at Tenney Stadium.

  • Vinny Butrico scored in a man-up situation on another assist by J. Embury to give the Red Foxes a three goal advantage.
  • The Red Foxes added two more goals less than one minute apart as Jojo Pirreca and Sam Ferrel made it 8-3 with less than five minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Keydets scored a buzzer-beater to make it 8-4 heading into halftime. 
  • Marist opened the second half with four unanswered goals to make 12-4. Joshua Balcarcel scored one and assisted Deacy who completed the hat trick. Lyons and J. Embury each added their first goal of the game.
  • The Keydets added one at the 3:54 mark in the third quarter to make it 12-5.
  • Marist's offensive barrage continued in the final quarter as Kellen Pulera scored his fourth goal of the season followed by Deacy who scored his fourth goal of the game.
  • The Red Foxes added three more as Lyons scored his second goal of the day, Michael Bowler scored his first goal of the season, and J. Embury scored on an assist by Pirecca to make it 17-5.
  • VMI scored two straight to get within 10.
  • Matt Fermo responded for the Red Foxes, making it 18-7.

  • Jake Deacy (four goals) and Jamison Embury (two goals, two assists) led the Red Foxes with four points apiece.
  • Joshua Balcarcel (one goal, two assists), James Lyons (two goals, one assist), and Jojo Pirreca (one goal, two assists) each contributed with three points.
  • Twelve Red Foxes scored in the victory: Deacy (4), J. Embury (2), Lyons (2), Bickel (2), Ferrel (1), Balcarcel (1), Bowler (1), Butrico (1), H. Embury (1), Fermo (1), Pirreca (1), Pulera (1).
  • Daniel O'Meara recorded 14 saves.
