Patrick Gardner, who enjoyed a standout 2022-23 season with the Marist men's basketball team, recently competed for Team Egypt in the FIBA World Cup.

Gardner appeared in five games in the World Cup, which included wins over Mexico and Jordan as well as contests against Lithuania, Montenegro, and New Zealand. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, highlighted by a 20-point, seven-rebound, three-assist performance against Mexico on Aug. 29.

The World Cup was the continuation of an active spring and summer for Gardner following his 2022-23 season with the Red Foxes. He played in the NABC – Reese's Division I All-Star Game and the State Farm College Team Skills & 3X3U Championships in late March in conjunction with the Final Four. In mid-April, he competed in the Portsmouth Invitational. He then suited up for the Miami Heat in NBA Summer League Action in July.

The next stop on Gardner's journey is NBA training camp with the Brooklyn Nets. Following the conclusion of Summer League action, Gardner signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Nets. This deal includes a signing bonus and an invitation to camp.

The Nets are scheduled to open camp on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Brooklyn has a four-game preseason schedule:

- Thursday, Oct. 12: Maccabi Ra'anana (Barclays Center, Brooklyn), 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, Oct. 16: Philadelphia 76ers (Barclays Center, Brooklyn), 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Miami Heat, 7:30 p.m.

In the 2022-23 season at Marist, Gardner was named First Team NABC All-District, Second Team All-Met Basketball Writers Association, Second Team All-MAAC, and to the MAAC All-Championship Team.
