POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Marist track and field student-athletes
Marissa Sciotto and
Mia Priore competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials women's 20,000m racewalk on Saturday, June 29 in Eugene, Oregon.
Sciotto placed 12th in 1:55:21, while Priore did not finish at the United States Olympic Team Trials 20k racewalk in Eugene.
"I am so proud of both ladies for all of the hard work and sacrifice it took to reach their dream of making the Olympic Trials," Marist track and field associate head coach Chuck Williams said. "The experience of being in Eugene and competing at the same meet as some of the best athletes in the world is something that they won't soon forget and something no one can ever take from them."
In addition to qualifying for the Olympic Trials, both ladies had qualified and competed at the USATF U20 National Outdoor Championships, where Priore earned All-American Honors last year. Each lady has competed in the prestigious Millrose Games during the Indoor Season as part of the Racewalk 1-mile national championships.
This past winter both Marissa and Mia qualified for the 2024 USA Track Indoor National Championships that were held in Albuquerque, NM. In addition, they both have had great success competing at the Penn Relays, one of the biggest outdoor track festivals in the country each year. Since arriving at Marist, they both have seen their personal best times improve in every distance that they have competed in and they have become the next in line of our very successful racewalk program here at Marist.
These ladies join former Red Foxes Katie Miale, Lauren Harris and Kayla Shapiro as the 4th and 5th athletes in school history to qualify for the Olympic Trials in the 20,000-meter racewalk championships. This is the second consecutive Olympic cycle where the Marist singlet will make its presence at the Track & Field Olympic Trials.
"Marissa and Mia represented our program and the entire Marist community with the highest level of character and integrity," Williams continued. "This experience was about what it meant to compete on this stage and to learn from it. I am so proud of everything they achieved and how hard they competed while wearing their Marist singlets. I know this is just the first of many opportunities for these ladies to compete at this meet and now they are both looking forward to getting back here in 2028."
