POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Sophomore guard
Justin Menard of the Marist University men's basketball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, sponsored by Air Force Reserve, on Monday.
In Marist's lone game this past week, an 82-74 triumph at Bryant for the Red Foxes' fifth straight victory,
Justin Menard led all scorers with a career-high 27 points. Additionally, he tied for the team high in rebounds (four) and steals (two) while dishing out three assists. Menard shot 7-for-12 from the field, 5-for-7 from three-point range, and 8-for-8 from the free-throw line. In this contest:
- His 27 points were the most scored by a MAAC player this past week.
- His layup with 3:12 left in the first half put Marist ahead for good.
- He scored 23 of his 27 points in the second half.
- He hit four three-pointers in a span of five-and-a-half minutes early in the second half as Marist extended its lead to a game high of 16.
- Bryant got within four points late in the game, but Menard iced the victory by going 6-for-6 from the line in the last 30 seconds. All three of his trips to the line were one-and-ones.
On the season, Menard is averaging 11.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. He leads the Red Foxes in assists and steals, and ranks fifth and seventh in the MAAC, respectively, in those categories.
This is the first MAAC weekly award won by a Marist men's basketball player this season.
Marist (7-2) will next play on Tuesday at Georgia Tech. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
