Softball’s Winning Streak Reaches 10

Red Foxes Tally 32 Hits, 22 Runs, & Six Homers in Sweep at Lafayette

EASTON, Pennsylvania – The Marist University softball team swept a doubleheader at Lafayette on Friday.
 
The Red Foxes prevailed by scores of 11-2 and 11-1 as they ran their winning streak to 10 and their overall record to 21-5.
 
Game One
  • Lafayette opened the scoring on a groundout in the bottom of the first, but the Red Foxes took the lead in the second on back-to-back homers from Ronni Howard and Kaitlyn Husic.
  • Samantha Rogers' two-run double gave Marist a 4-1 lead in the third.
  • Lafayette cut its deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the third, but Miah McDonald belted a three-run homer in the top of the fourth.
  • McDonald belted her second homer of the game the next inning, a two-run blast that gave Marist a 9-2 lead.
  • A two-run homer by Maddie Pleasants in the top of the seventh closed out the scoring.
  • Marist had 19 hits, led by Haley Ahr's 4-for-4 performance, and belted five home runs.
  • McDonald (3-for-5, five RBIs, two runs) and Pleasants (3-for-4, two RBIs) each had three hits. Husic and Peyton Pusey each had two hits and two runs scored.
  • Anna Sidlowski (4-2) allowed just two hits over the first four innings. Both runs she allowed were unearned. She struck out one, and she did not walk anyone.
  • Isabella Milazzo closed the game with three scoreless innings. She allowed one hit and zero walks, and she had one strikeout.
 
Game Two
  • Ahr's two-run single in the third opened the scoring.
  • Howard scored on an error in the top of the fourth.
  • Lafayette got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, but Pleasants' two-run homer put Marist up 5-1 in the fifth.
  • Marist added three runs in the sixth. Maddie Gore and McDonald scored on errors, and Rogers came in on Pleasants' sacrifice fly.
  • Marist scored three more runs in the seventh. McDonald delivered an RBI single. She and Pusey each scored on wild pitches.
  • Marist finished with 13 hits, led by Ahr's three. Pusey and McDonald had two hits apiece, and both of Pusey's hits were doubles.
  • Pleasants drove in three, while Pusey, McDonald, and Rogers scored two runs apiece.
  • Pleasants also started in the circle, and she struck out 10 in four innings.
  • Emma Bayor closed the game with three hitless innings and four strikeouts.
 
Notes
  • This is the second straight year Marist has had a winning streak of at least 10 games. The Red Foxes won 11 in a row last year.
  • Ahr finished the day 7-for-8.
  • McDonald drove in six in the two games. She and Pusey tied for the team best with four runs scored.
  • Marist tallied six homers, 32 hits, and 22 runs in the doubleheader.
  • Marist has scored at least 10 runs in five straight games.

  • Marist starts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play next weekend with a three-game series at Saint Peter's.
  • The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22 at noon, and a single game on Sunday, March 23 at noon.
