Megan Morris made her 200th career save in the Marist women's lacrosse team's 17-12 loss to Iona on Saturday afternoon.
Caitlin McNaboe earned her third hat trick of the season in the loss.
Anne Shine,
Alana Tavares, and
Jesse Manger scored twice, while
Alexa Borges,
Chloe Birckhead, and
Kate Gaven scored a goal.
With this result, the Red Foxes drop to 1-1 in MAAC play, while the Gaels improve to 2-0 in conference play.
- Just 12 minutes into the contest, Marist appeared to have complete control, with Borges, Gaven, and Manger all having netted.
- With just 1:25 left in the first frame, the Gaels scored twice, cutting the Marist lead to one heading into the second frame.
- The Gaels continued to pressure the Red Foxes, scoring twice in under four minutes to take the 4-3 lead.
- Chloe Birckhead broke the four-goal run at 10:48 to level the score at 4-4.
- Iona netted once more before Caitlin McNaboe tallied her first of the day at 7:29.
- The Gaels then went on a three-goal run before Shine converted on the woman-up opportunity at 1:40.
- The Gaels scored once more before the end of the half, leaving the score at 9-6.
- There was no scoring in the first seven minutes of the frame, only to have the Gaels go on a four-goal run to extend their lead to seven from 8:38 to 4:53.
- McNaboe and Tavares then scored back-to-back goals for the Red Foxes at 3:46 and 3:28, respectively.
- The Gaels would restore the seven-goal lead before the end of the frame, leaving the score at 15-8 in their favor.
- Shine scored her second, and McNaboe scored her third goal of the day early in the final frame, cutting the deficit to five.
- However, the momentum did not remain with the Red Foxes as the Gaels netted the following two goals.
- Manger and Tavares netted the final two goals of the contest, leaving the score at 17-12.
- Sophomore goalie Megan Morris made her 200th career save in the loss. She is now tied for seventh all-time in program history for saves with 212.
- Morris also made a season-high 13 saves.
- Caitlin McNaboe led the Red Foxes offensively with four points (three goals, one assist) and eight draw controls.
- Seven Red Foxes tallied at least two points.
- The Red Foxes outperformed the Gaels in the center circle with 20 draw controls to the home team's 12.
